Advanced detection, digital connectivity and compliance support for food manufacturers of packaged and unpackaged, wet, dry or bulk products

Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection has announced the launch of the M50 R-Series AdvancedLine metal detectors. The range is based on three key pillars: performance, productivity and safety.

Advanced detection capabilities

The M50 R-Series introduces a range of technological innovations designed to enhance detection sensitivity and deliver safer products for a variety of applications. Technologies such as eDrive PLUS, when used at a frequency of 900 kHz, improve field strength to offer maximum sensitivity and detect even the finest wires and non-spherical metal contaminants. Cutting-edge algorithms such as 3S PLUS, combined with AI-based machine learning, contribute to maximum sensitivity to minimise the risk of product recalls and provide safer products.

Metal detectors in this series include:

  • M55R: optimised for detecting much smaller, irregularly shaped metal contaminants in dry products such as pasta, savoury snacks and frozen foods (where thawing does not occur);
  • M55RB: optimised for bulk products such as large sacks, bags containing powdered ingredients and cartons;
  • M56R: optimised for challenging applications such as chilled, moist, dry, frozen/thawed and foil-wrapped products.

Aumento della produttività nell’intera linea

The M50 R-Series has been designed to maximise productivity and simplify day-to-day operations, with the ultimate aim of helping manufacturers ensure the availability of compliant products. A new 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen offers a clear display and intuitive navigation. The interface operates with the responsiveness typical of smartphone and tablet screens, even when the user is wearing gloves or when the screen is wet, allowing for faster setup and safer use compared to traditional resistive touchscreen technologies.

The introduction of the INFINITY electronic testing system represents a significant advance in routine testing. The automation of production performance monitoring simplifies testing procedures, improves consistency and accuracy, and significantly reduces testing times, as it is up to three times faster than manual testing. The M50 R-Series is also capable of performing tests automatically without operator intervention.

Enhancing security, compliance and traceability

Brand protection is enhanced thanks to the new access control system using radio-frequency identification (RFID), which supports individual user authentication and access management for greater security. Detailed access logs are stored locally or transmitted via multiple communication protocols, including OPC-UA and EtherNet/IP.

Manufacturers can take product and data security to the next level by integrating Mettler-Toledo’s ProdX™ data management software. By connecting all Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection devices, ProdX™ monitors and records all inspection activities in real time and securely stores the data indefinitely.

The M50 R-Series will make its world debut at Interpack 2026 (Hall 11, Stand A60), where visitors will be able to see the system in action. Following Interpack, the system will also be showcased at major industry events, including PackExpo.
