From wine and beverages to liquid food: innovation driven by “Made in Italy” takes center stage at Simei and Bevertech, held at Fiera Milano from November 17 to 20

A global market worth 44.6 billion euros, with a strong “Made in Italy” influence—this is the value of the processing and packaging machinery sector for the beverage and liquid food industry. From November 17 to 20, the sector will gather at Fiera Milano for the 31st edition of SIMEI, organized by the Italian Wine Union (Unione Italiana Vini, UIV), alongside the debut of Bevertech, a new event created through a synergy with Ipack Ima.

According to an analysis conducted in collaboration with MECS for these events, the technological scope covered by SIMEI—encompassing wine, beer, spirits, and oil—represents a total global value of 16.7 billion euros (2025 figures). Meanwhile, Bevertech, which focuses on technologies for the broader non-alcoholic beverage and liquid food sector, accounts for 27.9 billion euros. From processing to packaging, these segments represent a highly strategic technological and innovative asset for their respective production chains—a field in which Italy plays a leading role. The study indicates that Italian production of machinery and technology accounts for approximately 21% of the industry’s total value. This share rises to 47% when focusing specifically on the oenological sector—where Italy holds global leadership—and reaches 60% for the wine packaging segment.

Machinery for the processing and packaging of wine—a cornerstone of the UIV-organized exhibition for over 60 years, with a particular focus on oenology and bottling—has a global value of 2.6 billion euros (2025 figures). Of this total, 2.03 billion euros are attributable to processing—a figure essentially on par with 2024 levels (though reflecting a 1.2% decline in the 2021–2025 compound annual growth rate, or CAGR)—while 572.6 million euros relate to packaging, representing a 1.6% increase over the previous year and a 2021–2025 CAGR of +2.3%. Looking at the medium-term outlook, the two segments of the oenological equipment market show different rates of development. While processing machinery is projected to reach a value of approximately 2.1 billion euros by 2030—with an average annual growth rate of 0.7% between 2026 and 2030—the packaging sector appears more dynamic, with an expected value of 638.4 million euros by 2030 and an average annual growth rate of 2.2%.

On the demand side, Europe accounts for more than half (55%) of the global market for wine-processing machinery, driven by the two leading producers: Italy (ranking first with 305.2 million euros) and France (ranking third with 245.4 million euros). The United States holds the second position among individual countries, with a value of 263.2 million euros, representing 13% of the global market. However, while North America is expected to grow from 310.2 million euros in 2025 to 339.9 million euros by 2030 (a CAGR of +1.9%), the Old Continent is projected to face a slowdown, with a slightly negative annual growth rate (-0.3%). The Asia-Pacific region is particularly promising in terms of development opportunities, with a projected average annual growth rate of 2.2% for processing and 3.6% for packaging. The outlook for the packaging sector is also positive in more established markets, with Europe and North America expected to see average annual growth rates of 1.4% and 2%, respectively.

Against this backdrop, Simei and Bevertech serve as a meeting point between Italian technological expertise and the global demand for innovation, expanding the event’s traditional focus—originally centered on the wine industry—to encompass solutions for the entire supply chain of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as liquid food products.
