Spirits, simplified labelling

It is no longer mandatory to indicate the name of the producer in the same field of vision. This is established by the regulation adopted by the Council of the EU

The Council of the European Union has definitively adopted the regulation updating the regulatory framework for the wine sector. One of the provisions contained in the measure provides for the elimination of the obligation to display the name of the producer in the same field of vision as spirits with geographical indications.

“The simplification of the label – AssoDistil emphasises in a statement – does not represent a reduction in transparency, but rather a measure aimed at avoiding overlapping information that could potentially cause confusion or ‘bombard’ consumers with redundant elements at the time of purchase”.

“The result achieved – continues AssoDistil – was made possible thanks to intense teamwork, which saw our association working in close coordination with oriGIn, the international organisation for geographical indications, and spiritsEUROPE, the European organisation representing spirits producers, in order to protect producers of spirits with geographical indications and, at the same time, guarantee consumers accurate, clear and non-misleading information”.
