The model expands the X6 Series of X-ray inspection systems, offering cutting-edge technology for detecting low-density contaminants in medium- to large-sized packages in single lanes or in smaller packages across multiple lines

Mettler-Toledo announced the launch of the X56 DXD+, a dual-energy photon-counting X-ray system with AI capabilities, expanding the X6 Series portfolio. Designed specifically for packaged applications under the “Inspect. Protect. Maintain Regulatory Compliance” philosophy, the X56 DXD+ offers advanced contamination detection capabilities.

The X6 Series provides manufacturers with a comprehensive range of x-ray inspection solutions to accommodate a variety of product sizes, from single packs to larger packages or multi-packs. The X56 DXD+ builds on the success of the X16 and X36.2 models and offers advanced dual-energy photon counting capabilities for medium- to large-sized products in single lanes or smaller packages spread across multiple lanes, all in a 500 mm wide system.

AI-based inspection for advanced quality control

AI integration helps improve the quality and reliability of quality control activities while reducing unnecessary product rejects. This is beneficial for overcoming inspection challenges in complex scenarios such as product overlap or mixing, thus helping to increase production process efficiency. AI integration is not limited to the X56 DXD+ system but is also available on other x-ray systems in the Mettler Toledo product range.

Designed for high levels of performance and flexibility

Featuring DXD+ detection technology and Advanced Material Discrimination Pro (AMD Pro) software, the X56 DXD+ delivers exceptional performance in demanding applications where conventional single-energy systems might struggle, particularly when detecting low-density contaminants in packaged products with high variability in thickness, density, or overlapping structures, such as multipacks, chip bags, or bulky cartons. This high level of detection sensitivity supports effective quality control, even for noisy or high-contrast products, where conventional systems might fail.

This makes the X56 DXD+ system a powerful complement to the X6 series. The X16 model is designed for high-speed single-pack inspection, while the X36.2 model is customizable for high-throughput, high-throughput environments and is available for multi-lane inspection.

Intelligent design for speed and productivity

The X56 DXD+ system was designed with operational efficiency in mind. It combines excellent detection performance with an intuitive interface, tool-free tape removal for quick cleaning, and a rugged, hygienic design suitable for high-speed, high-volume environments. With throughput speeds of up to 500 products per minute, the X56 DXD+ system meets the demands of production lines, helping manufacturers increase efficiency and combat rising operating costs through increased productivity and intelligent design.

With integrated product quality control tools, including completeness checks, fragment detection, and trapped product inspection, the X56 DXD+ also ensures effective quality control, improving consistency and safeguarding brand integrity, going beyond simple contamination detection.

Flexible integration for a global market

Compatible with a wide range of belt heights and ejection options and available in single- or multi-lane configurations, the X56 DXD+ system was developed as a comprehensive solution for manufacturers requiring greater flexibility and performance. Its advanced software offers complete traceability through a database of recorded images, accessible on-screen or integrated with Mettler-Toledo ProdX™ data management software for centralized monitoring and regulatory compliance.

This connectivity, combined with support for common network protocols, simplifies compliance by enabling real-time monitoring, secure record keeping, and simplified audit preparation across global production environments. ProdX™ automates the monitoring, reporting, and collection of all inspection activities in real time. Securely stored data facilitates regulatory compliance, provides clear evidence of due diligence to protect brand reputation, and enables data-driven decisions that can lead to performance and productivity improvements across the line.

Chris Plant, Head of Market Management at Mettler-Toledo Safeline X-ray, says: “The launch of the X56 DXD+ expands our X6 series, offering a comprehensive range of inspection solutions tailored for modern food production. With its dual-energy photon counting capability, the X56 DXD+ delivers unprecedented detection performance on complex packages, in single- or multi-lane formats. This advanced inspection capability will further help customers inspect every product with confidence, protect productivity, brand reputation and profits, and easily meet industry requirements“.
