The BioDtex lamp and the NOVALUM II X bioluminometer are two useful tools for detecting the presence of biofilm and contamination hiding on plant surfaces and in the environment.
Biofilm is a complex, adhesive layer of microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, algae) that forms on surfaces, pipes, tanks, and equipment, often invisible to the naked eye even after cleaning procedures. Resistant to common detergents and disinfectants, it can harbor pathogens such as Listeria and Escherichia coli, causing dangerous consequences such as product recalls and damage to the company’s reputation.
The BioDtex® UV detection lamp makes the invisible visible and is the innovative solution that changes the paradigm of biofilm detection: a portable precision UV lamp, developed by the British company BioScan Ltd, that makes biofilm visible in real time, allowing for targeted interventions and immediate verification of the effectiveness of sanitization procedures.
For comprehensive hygiene monitoring, BioDtex integrates seamlessly with rapid swabs that are read using the Novalum II X bioluminometer. The BioDtex® UV lamp identifies problem areas. Pocketswab Plus swabs verify the degree of contamination. The Novalum II X bioluminometer detects the presence of ATP in a sample collected with the Pocketswab Plus swab in just 5 seconds and returns a quantitative value in RLU (Relative Light Units). The more light emitted, the higher the level of contamination.
Monitoring the presence of biofilms prevents cross-contamination and the spread of pathogens, improving the safety of bottling plants.
