Rotating plastic bearings, a new ultra-compact fifth wheel

Designed by igus, it is also available in ad hoc versions for the food industry, made with FDA-compliant materials

Igus, a manufacturer of plastic rotating bearings for over 20 years, has expanded its iglidur PRT-04 series with a new ultra-compact slewing ring designed for the increasingly small installation spaces that characterise modern mechanical engineering.

La nuova ralla della serie PRT-04 è una soluzione salvaspazio per movimenti rotatori con carico medio

“This new fifth wheel – the company emphasises in a statement – offers designers a space-saving, lightweight and cost-effective solution for medium-load rotary movements. The special design, featuring a small outer ring, saves space in the inner diameter, allowing for the integration of cables and drives”. The new slewing ring also “offers decisive advantages for moving applications in modular machine designs”, being “50% thinner, 60% lighter and 20% cheaper than the previous PRT-01 series”, “its assembly is simplified, thanks to direct mounting on the outer ring“, and, “thanks to the use of high-performance plastics such as iglidur J in the sliding elements, it is lubrication-free and corrosion-resistant“, as well as being “available in all installation sizes“.

For the food industry, ad hoc versions of the new fifth wheel coupling are available, made from FDA-compliant materials such as iglidur A180 and iglidur A181. The range is completed by products made from PTFE-free materials such as iglidur JPF, or with dissipative properties such as iglidur F2.

The company also provides an online configurator to allow designers to select, customise and order slewing rings directly from the website. As with all its components for which the service life can be calculated online, the new PRT-04 series slewing ring also comes with a 4-year warranty.
