BBM Packaging: new revamping project for Oleificio Zucchi

BBM Packaging supplied, overhauled, installed, and commissioned an OCME ALTAIR X30 cartoner, delivering a turnkey solution designed to reduce line downtime

Industrial innovation does not necessarily require the purchase of new equipment. Increasingly, revamping and the enhancement of existing technologies represent a concrete response to the demands of competitiveness, sustainability and production continuity. This approach is at the heart of the project carried out by BBM Packaging for Oleificio Zucchi, a historic company based in Cremona and a leading player in the high-quality edible oils sector.

The project involved the supply, complete refurbishment, installation and commissioning of an OCME ALTAIR X30 case packer, integrated into the Cremona production facility through a turnkey solution designed to minimise line downtime. The machine, supplied with a 12-month warranty and equipped with original electronic components, was configured to handle six PET bottle formats from 1 to 2 litres, with flexible packaging configurations (4×3, 4×2 and 3×2), reaching a production capacity of 30 packs per minute.

The project represents another milestone in the long-standing collaboration between BBM Packaging and Oleificio Zucchi. Over the years, BBM has supported the company through several plant modernisation projects, including the installation of a refurbished BERCHI Genius D/S depalletiser, capable of handling around 20 glass bottle formats at a speed of up to 15,000 bottles/hour, as well as the supply of conveyor systems and solutions designed to optimise format changeovers.

The new case packer was customised to meet the complexity of Zucchi’s production environment, characterised by different bottle formats – Liberty, Dolce Zucchi, Quadra and Tonda – and various packaging solutions, including windowed cases. BBM Packaging developed a dedicated layout and an infeed conveyor equipped with adjustable side guides to make format changeovers faster and more efficient.
