With BeeW® by Amorim Cork Italia, the meeting of two gifts of nature

BeeW® Amorim Cork Italia

Great wines are born in the vineyard and completed in the bottle. Between bottling and uncorking, a silent process takes place, made up of microscopic exchanges, variations, and adaptations. It is within this invisible space that BeeW®, the biodegradable beeswax coating developed by Amorim Cork Italia, makes the difference.

This is a finishing treatment designed exclusively for one-piece natural cork stoppers. Thanks to a double layer – consisting of an initial barrier of natural waxes and a final silicone film with a mechanical effect – the system further optimizes the adhesion between the cork surface and the bottle neck, eliminating the risk of uncontrolled gas ingress and therefore reducing variability within the same bottling batch.

«The one-piece cork stopper is, and will remain, the elite closure for wines that must withstand the passage of time in a harmonious and balanced way. BeeW® was created to honor this promise: reducing variability, protecting aromatic expression, and ensuring that every bottle tells the same story», says Stefano Zaninotto, Technical Manager at Amorim Cork Italia.

The system was tested on two types of wine – Chardonnay 2022 and Brunello di Montalcino 2017 – and the results spoke for themselves: its effectiveness goes beyond theory. Blind sensory tests conducted with expert panels, followed by chemical analyses of the wines, demonstrated that closures treated in this way achieved significant scores in terms of overall pleasantness, intensity, and aromatic quality, enhancing even highly complex wines.

This further confirms the fascinating parallels between cork and beeswax: both are natural, renewable, and biodegradable products. The very structure of cork easily recalls the architecture of honeycombs. BeeW® was born precisely from this dialogue between two forms of excellence and aligns perfectly with the sustainability values that have always distinguished Amorim Cork Italia: a positive impact on environmental, social, and economic balance, protection of oak forests, and commitment to the circular economy.
