The competition to select the best Italian craft beers of 2027 is now open. Registration is now open for the 22nd edition of Birra dell\u2019Anno<\/strong>, the national competition organised by Unionbirrai<\/a><\/strong>, the trade association of small independent craft breweries, which has been rewarding the best Italian beers since 2005.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An Early Bird discount of 15%<\/strong> is available until 10 November<\/strong>, which will drop to 10% from 11 November to 15 December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entries will remain open until 31 January 2027<\/strong>, while the awards ceremony will take place on Sunday 21 February<\/strong> at 3.45 pm at the Rimini Exhibition Centre, as part of Beer&Food Attraction<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBeer of the Year provides a benchmark for the quality level achieved by Italian craft breweries<\/em>,\u201d says Simone Monetti, Secretary General of Unionbirrai<\/strong>.Its value does not end with the medals, but also lies in the opportunity for breweries to receive independent assessments and useful guidance for improvement. In an increasingly competitive market, quality and recognition are key to showcasing the work of small producers<\/em>“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2027 edition confirms 46 style categories<\/strong>, from great brewing traditions to more experimental brews, including Italian Grape Ales and low- or no-alcohol beers. The tastings will be carried out strictly blind, prioritising balance, technical finesse and drinkability over strict adherence to stylistic conventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New features include optional evaluation and quality control services: customised statistical reports, tasting sessions with industry professionals and expert consumers to assess commercial appeal, and laboratory analyses. The special awards Best Collaboration Brew, dedicated to collaborations between breweries, and 100% Italian Beer of the Year, reserved for beers made exclusively with Italian agricultural ingredients, have been confirmed. The new Innovation and Creativity Award, established in collaboration with Italian Exhibition Group \u2013 Rimini Trade Fair, has also been added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfter thirty years of history, Italian craft beer has built an identity that is also recognised internationally<\/em>,\u201d adds Monetti. The challenge today is to continue investing in quality, creativity and the relationship with the market. <\/em>The new features of the competition are geared towards this goal, offering producers tangible opportunities to identify their strengths and improve their products<\/em>.\u201d

To facilitate participation, 2027 also introduces the \u201cSecure your place, choose the beers later\u201d option: breweries can purchase and pay their entry fees (by 10 November to benefit from the 15% discount) and subsequently decide which beers to enter, by 31 January 2027. To qualify for the discount, payment must be completed within the stipulated deadlines, including any membership fee. The beers must be delivered to the Rimini Trade Fair between 1 and 16 February 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
