{"id":241173,"date":"2026-09-28T11:03:33","date_gmt":"2026-09-28T09:03:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.alimentibevande.it\/uncategorized\/frodi-nuova-frontiera-contro-la-contraffazione-di-cognac-e-brandy\/"},"modified":"2026-09-28T11:13:14","modified_gmt":"2026-09-28T09:13:14","slug":"fraud-new-front-in-the-fight-against-counterfeit-cognac-and-brandy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alimentibevande.it\/en\/featured\/fraud-new-front-in-the-fight-against-counterfeit-cognac-and-brandy\/","title":{"rendered":"Fraud: new front in the fight against counterfeit Cognac and Brandy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The increasing prevalence of <strong>fraud <\/strong>in the high-end <strong>spirits <\/strong>market calls for tools that are fast, reliable and can be used directly throughout the supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dwapanyin and colleagues <\/strong>demonstrate how <strong>through-bottle spectroscopy<\/strong> can become a valuable tool for both quality control and verification of the authenticity of Cognac and Brandy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The technique combines Raman and <strong>fluorescence spectroscopy <\/strong>in an optical configuration that allows the contents to be analysed without opening the bottle, almost completely reducing interference from the glass. The result is a cleaner and more representative signal of the product, while preserving its integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>results <\/strong>show that the method distinguishes the main Cognac ageing classifications with high accuracy, identifies the year of bottling and differentiates products from different brands. A particularly interesting aspect is that the <strong>performance <\/strong>remains <strong>unchanged even with bottles of different shapes or glass compositions<\/strong>, making the technique also effective in detecting fraudulent practices such as filling premium bottles with lower-value spirits. The study also highlights the potential of the technology for <strong>quality control<\/strong>. The analyses detected spectral changes in the samples stored at 35\u00b0C, distinguishing them from those kept at 20\u00b0C and 25\u00b0C and indicating possible alterations due to suboptimal storage conditions.
