{"id":237558,"date":"2026-05-21T10:58:44","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T08:58:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.alimentibevande.it\/uncategorized\/pack-riutilizzabile-vs-monouso-il-riuso-riduce-limpatto-ambientale\/"},"modified":"2026-05-21T11:10:49","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T09:10:49","slug":"reusable-vs-disposable-pack-reuse-reduces-environmental-impact","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alimentibevande.it\/en\/sustainability\/reusable-vs-disposable-pack-reuse-reduces-environmental-impact\/","title":{"rendered":"Reusable vs disposable pack: reuse reduces environmental impact?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Is reuse worthwhile? <\/strong>To answer this question, the <strong>study by&nbsp;Issifu and Sumaila <\/strong>compares different packaging systems to understand whether reusable models can offer tangible environmental and economic benefits throughout the entire life cycle.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The research uses a&nbsp;<strong>Life Cycle Assessment (<\/strong>LCA)&nbsp;approach to compare <strong>seven types of packaging<\/strong>: reusable glass bottles, reusable PET bottles, reusable PP cups and various single-use PET solutions, with or without recycled content. The analysis takes the distribution of&nbsp;330 ml of beverage as a reference, assessing carbon emissions, energy and water consumption, waste generation and costs throughout the entire life cycle.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The results show that&nbsp;<strong>reusable systems generally have lower environmental impacts<\/strong>&nbsp;than single-use alternatives. For example, reusable PET bottles perform well, especially due to lower transport-related emissions compared to glass.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reusable glass bottles can achieve very favourable results <\/strong>when reuse cycles are high and return logistics are efficient. In contrast,&nbsp;<strong>single-use PET solutions<\/strong>, especially those without recycled content, <strong>have the greatest impact<\/strong>, mainly due to the use of virgin raw material and the limited life cycle.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study also shows that factors such as the number of reuses, transport distance, energy used and percentage of recycled material have a decisive influence on environmental performance.
